Rafael Anton Irisarri
About
Rafael Anton Irisarri is an Ibero-American composer, producer, and mastering engineer working across ambient, experimental, and modern classical music. Born in Puerto Rico and now based between Spain and rural New York, he first emerged from Seattle’s 2000s scene as The Sight Below, blending blurred guitars, submerged rhythms, and minimal pulse.
His work has since expanded into widescreen sound worlds shaped by memory, geography, and the emotional weight of place. His catalog runs from Ghostly International to recent releases on Black Knoll Editions, forming a sustained archive of atmospheres and afterimages.
As founder of Black Knoll Studio, his mastering work has shaped recordings by Ryuichi Sakamoto, Terry Riley, William Basinski, Grouper, Julianna Barwick, and MONO. Key collaborative projects include Orcas and long-term work with Abul Mogard and Benoît Pioulard.
He has performed at international festivals including Le Guess Who, Sónar, Unsound, and MUTEK, with press support from BBC, Pitchfork, The Quietus, The Wire, and Electronic Sound.
