Last year, armed with little more than a dusty laptop, a Casio keyboard, and an SM58 vocal microphone, Leeds-based duo Maeve Florsheim and Jasper Exley retreated to the Irish countryside. They went completely off grid, shutting themselves away from it all and limiting their influences and resources in order to unlock their maximum creativity. The plan paid off. Building on the distinctive soundscapes they’d already developed on their 2024 EP, “Something to Believe In”, which blended hyperpop, electro and dance experiments, Lucky Iris took things to the next level with their 2026 EP, “Fall in Love with the DJ” – and this year they’re sounding like no other project on the UK club scene. Jagged synths and distortion interplay with emotional collages of euphoria and desire, and the vocals sound as emotionally charged as they are robotic. Underlying it all is the bittersweet longing of the dance floor.
