Look at Me! A Self-Portrait Art Workshop

Creative Workshop for Ages 10–12
Why do adults often stand up straighter and put on their “photo smile” when a camera is pointed at them? Do you do something similar, or perhaps pull a spectacular funny face instead? What stories do the pictures of ourselves and others that appear online tell, and do they really reflect our lives as they are?

In this workshop, participants will explore different ways of expressing their own identity and capturing the personality of others by looking at the work of artists who use photography in their practice. Together, we will learn how to take creative photographs that are about more than simply looking good or impressing others.
The workshop is led by Bára Bjarnadóttir, a children’s services specialist at Reykjavík City Library and a visual artist. Bára has extensive experience working with children and young people through art workshops and recreational programmes, where experimentation, genuine dialogue, and the joy of creating are often at the heart of the experience.
